Arcon Housing Group is considering an exciting offer to join Bolton at Home Limited to enhance both social landlords’ opportunities to develop new levels of housing supply across the region.
We have sent letters to residents to consult on the offer and there will be a drop-in-session to answer any questions you may have at the Blackley office on December 4th from 1 to 4pm.
Your comments will be fed into the consultation process and viewed by the Board before they make their final decision early next year.
The key aspects of the offer are:
- All existing residents will retain their tenancy with Arcon and there are no changes to their terms and conditions.
- Arcon maintains its independence as a subsidiary within the Bolton at Home Group.
- An additional £30m is provided for funding new development work by Arcon over the next five years, resulting in some 1,300 homes being built by 2023.
- Funding of £3m for social and community work is to be provided to further develop the work done through Arcon’s community fund. This work will focus on removing barriers to employment, supporting a wide range of wellbeing initiatives and providing training and development opportunities.
- Service improvements - Arcon will be able to access support to enhance services for our residents helping tenancy sustainability, dealing with income management issues and working on community investment projects.
This is a strategic partnership with mutual benefits to enhance capacity and capability, with a range of new partners. We look forward to exciting times ahead.

I would urge you to get your bids in for our community fund. We are nearing the end of the November cohort of community fund bids. We have expanded the fund from £25,000 last year to a total of £40,000 for bids for 2018/19, due to the significant impact we have seen providing grants to a wide range of extremely worthwhile charities.
This year, our Community Fund is open to both residents and charities to bid for funding. We have up to £300 to support a personal or community project. For charities, we have up to £3,000 of funding available. We would like to work with charities which combat homelessness, increase resident employability and well-being.

Arcon launches 21 new homes with Bellway in Boothstown, Salford
Delighted to see families moving into their new homes in Salford in time for Christmas as part of our fantastic regeneration scheme at Boothstown.
Stakeholders, including Board members and the Deputy Chief Executive of Bolton at Home Noel Sharpe, attended the launch at the Bellway Homes’ Edenfields development.
Councillor Tracy Kelly, Salford City Council’s Lead Member for Housing and Neighbourhoods, officially launched the scheme and said homes of all kinds were desperately needed in Salford.
Arcon is offering 21 new three or four bed-homes for shared ownership or rent as part of the wider Bellway Homes development. Prices start from £99,800 for a 40% share in a four-bed home with Arcon.
The rented Arcon properties have been advertised on Salford City Council’s Choice Based Lettings scheme - Salford Home Search and are set at £133 per week for a three-bed home and £152 per week for a four bed-home.

Blackley Bathrooms Completion
Arcon has completed extensive work on our Blackley estate, conducting planned roofing and bathroom works for more than 80 properties. Managed by our Building Surveyor Tricia Caines with Paul Johnson, Liberty Group’s Site Manager, we had 100% positive feedback from residents, with particular reference to the detailed information provided prior to work being carried out.
Further work is expected in February next year and Albert Avenue in Prestwich, alongside properties in Levenshulme and Gorton are next in line in the planned works cycle.
Salford Ambassador Day
It was great to meet potential housing leaders of the future who learnt more about careers in housing, as part of Arcon’s ongoing support for local youth engagement and homelessness charity Mancunian Way.
Housing announcements in the Budget
The Chancellor Philip Hammond announced a raft of new housing measures in the Budget on October 29, including that Universal Credit is ‘here to stay’. An additional package of £1bn over the next five years was announced to aid the transition to implementation of Universal Credit.
Further measures included abolishing paying stamp duty for first time buyers of shared ownership homes up to £500,000. Also, 500 neighbourhoods were allocated discounts for sale of homes to local people.
Funding support measures were also announced to ‘fire up’ the Northern Powerhouse and ‘fuel’ the Midlands Engine.
There was also a further push to speed up housebuilding with the next wave of strategic partnerships with Homes England announced, with nine housing associations delivering 13,000 new homes nationally. A further £500m of funding was announced from a housing infrastructure fund to unlock a further 650,000 homes across the country.
We remain some distance off delivering the 340,000 new homes per year which the National Housing Federation and Crisis forecast we need each year.
