Spring in Our Step

                Spring in our Step

With spring finally here, Arcon residents have given their thumbs up to a new colour scheme for communal areas following a trial at Arundel and Braemar Court.

This refresh gives the communal areas a more modern feel, with light grey paint for walls, merlin grey for doors and gloss white for skirting and sills.

The new colour scheme has been very well received by residents, with all of those from Arundel Court who responded to our Customer Satisfaction Survey giving top marks to the works carried out. One resident said: ‘Colour scheme really good, lower ground floor has been transformed - well done.’

In light of this positive feedback, we plan to use these colours when redecorating communal areas in the future.

Community fund

Our community fund programme is supporting a range of worthwhile schemes across our neighbourhoods. These initiatives include The Yaran Community North West charity, which provides a variety of services to meet the needs of vulnerable adults, new immigrants and their families in Greater Manchester who need urgent help. Yaran aims to use their Arcon grant to establish weekly workshops to support people back into work, improve their employability skills and gain an enhanced financial understanding.

Arcon is also supporting Cheetham Hill Advice Centre, which operates in the Cheetham Hill and Crumpsall areas, with an outreach service to residents from Gorton, Levenshulme and Longsight. Volunteers at the charity work tirelessly to alleviate poverty and to support residents to overcome barriers which they face in accessing their rights. The £1,000 grant will be used to purchase two new computers which will be used by residents and the 24 volunteers who work at the Centre.

New Board Appointments

Our Board of Management recently appointed four new members who will bring a range of new skills and a wealth of experience to the organisation. Their contributions will no doubt help improve the range and quality of our services and products in shaping the future direction of Arcon. You can learn more about these appointments and see the new member’s profiles here.

New Development in Boothstown

Delighted to have signed a deal with the developers Bellways to acquire 21 new family homes on their proposed new development in Bothstown Salford. The properties will be built over the next 12 months and be both for rent and offered on a shared ownership basis.

Homelessness Reduction Act

The Homelessness Reduction Act, which will come into force next month, is designed to prevent people from becoming homeless and to give Councils more control to tackle the issue, so they can provide early support to people at risk.

There have been concerns across Greater Manchester that the extra funding will not be enough to meet the heightened demand. We would all like to play our part in achieving Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham’s target to end rough-sleeping by 2020.
