Arcon enters into talks to deliver more homes

Arcon enters into talks to deliver more homes across the North West

The big news for Arcon Housing Group over the last month is that our Board has given their support to enter into merger discussions with Bolton at Home Limited.

We both have the joint aim of delivering more affordable homes across the North West. This strategic partnership has mutual benefits and plays to our strengths, with us both already working together as part of the Greater Manchester Housing Providers’ Group. The newly formed Group’s development programme would enable its specialist development team to deliver more than 1,300 homes by 2023.

Our focus is to continue to deliver high quality services to our residents. Talks are at an early stage with tenants being consulted as part of the process. I have also met with our Tenant Scrutiny Panel who will be looking at the proposals and commenting with their feedback being made directly to our Board for them to consider. Obviously I would also welcome your views; I will update you in next month’s Blog.

Tenant Scrutiny Committee

We value the work of our Committee, which has completed reviews of our Resident Involvement Policy, our day-to-day repairs service, Estates Services, and are well underway with a review of our Customer Hub. Our Committee’s insight enables us to improve our services to customers, with the Committee monitoring the quality of our services, sometimes through Mystery Shopping. Recommendations from the Committee include text updates for residents about repair appointments.

Housing Summit and Party Conference Season

Housing has never before been so high up political agendas. Colleagues attended the National Housing Federation Summit in London where they were among future leaders in the housing sector. Our Prime Minister also announced a further two billion pounds of funding to build more homes over the next 10 years.

At their Party Conference in Liverpool, Labour pledged to end the housing crisis with a raft of measures. We will see what housing announcements are made from the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham in early October.

Gas Safety Week

Arcon is pleased to have supported the annual Gas Safety Week, which raises awareness of safety and taking care of appliances with some useful tips. Over the last year, our gas servicing contractor Liberty Gas has inspected all of our properties to carry out gas safety checks and service electrical heating systems.

First for recycled windows at Fir Court

Residents in 40 properties at Fir Court in Macclesfield have had their windows replaced by local window installer, Grosvenor Windows, in their first ever totally recycled job.

The job has replaced more than 160 windows, with warmer more energy efficient windows, completing the refurbishment of the homes. Our team aimed for minimum disruption, which was underlined by a 96% tenant satisfaction survey result.

New homes in Boothstown mark Shared Ownership week

To mark shared ownership week, three and four-bedroom homes are now available for shared ownership and rent at our new Edenfields development with Bellway Homes. We have 21 new family homes available in Boothstown and Salford. Please contact Zoe Drayton at Miller Metcalfe on 0161 794 9798 to register your interest in our Shared Ownership properties. Community fund

We have donated 11 computer keyboards to one of charities we support through our community fund, the Yaran Centre. The charity provides a variety of services to meet the needs of vulnerable adults, new immigrants and their families in Greater Manchester who need urgent help.

Volunteering

Colleagues have donated 11 full days of their time, as part of our commitment to support our communities and to celebrate We Care Day with PlaceShapers. My Community Space is holding Charity in the Community Days in Salford on October 8 to 9. To get involved with volunteering more details are on our News pages.

As always, if you have any issues or would like to get involved in our Tenant Scrutiny Committee, please contact our Customer Hub on 0161 2144120.
