Digital Switchover
From the 4th of November to the 2nd of December, television in the north west of England (the Granada TV region) will switch to digital.
Arcon Housing Association has been upgrading aerials since the announcement of the Switchover to make sure you can receive the digital signal before November.
What this means for you
After the switchover you will need a TV that can receive the digital signal. You may already have a set-top digital box or a digital TV, or receive satellite or cable. If you can watch more than the five traditional channels—ie. BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Channel 4, FIVE, and in some areas Channel M—you already have digital TV.
If you can only receive the five traditional channels you will need to convert your TV with a digital box. These cost from £25 and work with your existing TV aerial. You can also receive digital TV via satellite, cable and broadband, though these options will cost more.
For more information call DigitalUK on 08456 50 50 50 or visit www.digitaluk.co.uk. DigitalUK are holding events across the north west between June and December where you can find more about the switchover and get help and advice. For the dates and locations check Roadshow events in Granada.
The Switchover Help Scheme
You can help you convert your TV to digital if you:
- Are aged 75 or over, or
- Have lived in a care home for six months or more, or
- Get (or could get) certain disability benefits, or
- Are registered blind or partially sighted
